About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world practice. You will follow a comprehensive training roadmap to gain experience in pharmacy operations while preparing for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to support the pharmacy team in providing safe and accurate care to patients.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by offering empathy and care during interactions.
- Assist with patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Offer to counsel patients and field medical questions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and training to pharmacy team members to share best practices.
- Perform basic inventory tasks, such as processing medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events according to public health requirements.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal policies regarding patient privacy and safety.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in mathematical reasoning to calculate dosages and supply needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing for extended periods, reaching, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified.
- Preferred: Flexibility to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
