Cummins Inc. is seeking students for Summer 2025 Product Engineering internship positions. This role offers the opportunity to work within the engineering organization to support product development, design refinement, and technical problem-solving. Interns will gain exposure to the product lifecycle, from concept selection to design validation, while contributing to team goals under the guidance of experienced engineers.
What you'll do#
- Investigate field-based or program-specific issues, identify causal mechanisms, and recommend solutions with guidance from the team.
- Support the execution of engineering processes, including Design Reviews, Critical Design Decisions, and validation checklists.
- Utilize technical tools such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to enable high-quality component and subsystem design.
- Assist in communicating design intent to cross-functional teams and technical experts through comprehensive Design Review packages.
- Contribute to concept selection, optimization, and the development of design specifications for product initiatives.
- Support the resolution of moderately complex technical issues and engage in the improvement of established work processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Aerospace, Biomedical, or Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 or above is preferred.
- Ability to commit to a 10 to 12-week internship duration.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week.
- A willingness to learn from team members and develop professional competencies.
- Proficiency in areas including product problem solving, technical documentation, system capability engineering, and cross-functional design integration.
Location & details#
- Location: Columbus, Indiana, United States.
- Modality: This position may be performed on-site or remotely, depending on the specific assignment.
- Duration: Summer 2025 (10–12 weeks).
- Compensation: Paid internship with monthly salary ranges based on degree level: Bachelor's ($3,900–$4,800), Master's ($6,000), and PhD ($7,300).
