This Student Intern position supports the Inpatient Orthopedic department by providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. This is a PRN, on-site role suitable for students pursuing degrees in Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or Health Administration.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with basic patient care services and maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Collect and record patient data such as vital signs, intake/output, and calorie counts, reporting findings to the nursing team.
- Support patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, oral care, and feeding.
- Assist with patient mobility, including positioning, ambulating, and using mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs.
- Perform clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, collecting samples, and providing urinary catheter care.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain continuous patient observation when required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Nursing program or 0-2 years of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of patient care practices and medical equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (CPCT) is preferred.
