About the role#
The Collier Mosquito Control District is hiring a Research Intern for the Winter 2027 term. This position offers hands-on experience in public health, mosquito biology, and integrated pest management. You will work alongside experts in operations and research to support our mission of protecting public health in Southwest Florida.
What you'll do#
- Perform a mix of field and laboratory work.
- Conduct adult mosquito trapping, larval sampling, and mosquito identification.
- Assist with data entry and various operational research tasks.
- Engage in research projects through independent work or under mentorship.
- Learn about disease surveillance, pesticide resistance, and taxonomy.
- Have the opportunity to obtain a Public Health Pest Control License.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university.
- Coursework or experience in biology, public health, or related natural sciences.
- A valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and communication.
- Basic computer skills in Word and Excel.
- Ability to work outdoors in challenging conditions, including high heat, humidity, swampy terrain, and exposure to biting insects.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Naples, Florida.
- This is an on-site, full-time position.
- The internship runs from January 11, 2027, to May 7, 2027.
- Hours are 20 to 40 per week, Monday through Friday, with some weekend or holiday work as needed.
- A housing stipend may be available based on need and availability.
