About the role#
The Packaging Engineering Intern or Co-op supports the development, qualification, and implementation of packaging solutions for pet food products at Hill’s Pet Nutrition. This role partners with cross-functional teams to deliver packaging that meets performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist in driving packaging projects from concept through commercialization.
- Support Life Cycle Assessment on packaging solutions and provide recommendations.
- Collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, Design, and Supply Chain teams.
- Prepare and present technical summaries, packaging concepts, test results, and business impact.
- Develop written reports and slide presentations.
- Support packaging development through pilot and manufacturing scale-up.
- Partner with Quality and manufacturing site teams to ensure system specifications and designs are appropriate.
- Confirm packaging maintains product integrity under shipping and handling conditions.
- Conduct or monitor package testing, such as stability, transit, drop, compression, and sealing.
- Analyze test data and prepare reports with recommendations.
- Develop a working knowledge of Packaging Laboratory test equipment and capabilities.
- Apply standard operating procedures for equipment use and data collection.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Materials Science, or a closely related technical field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Familiarity with CAD or packaging-related software is a plus.

- The role operates on a hybrid schedule.
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
