About the role#
As a Procurement Intern with the City of Fredericksburg Finance Department, you will gain hands-on experience in public procurement and contract administration. This role focuses on applying academic knowledge to real-world government processes, including competitive solicitations, vendor relations, and compliance. You will develop skills in recordkeeping and learn about the Virginia Public Procurement Act.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the administration of Invitation for Bids (IFBs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Prepare and maintain procurement files, solicitation records, and contract documentation.
- Coordinate and support pre-bid and pre-proposal conferences, including recording minutes and documenting vendor questions.
- Conduct research on procurement methods, contract options, and applicable regulations.
- Support responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by organizing and preparing public records.
- Assist with post-award contract administration and procurement record management.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from an undergraduate or graduate degree program in public administration, business administration, procurement, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- Ability to learn and apply public procurement laws and policies.

- Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $16 per hour.
