Summer Academy Intern [Ages 14-17]

About the role#

The Summer Academy Intern position supports the City of Atlanta Parks & Recreation department by facilitating recreational, educational, and social enrichment activities for youth ages 5–12. This role focuses on promoting social, cultural, and historical awareness through an activity-based curriculum over a seven-week period.

What you'll do#

• Supervise youth during daily camp operations to ensure a safe environment.
• Plan and implement recreational and educational activities while encouraging camper participation.
• Assist counselors with day-to-day operations and provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain camp facilities and keep accurate supply inventories.
• Instruct campers in emergency procedures and adhere to all organizational policies.
• Attend required meetings and complete necessary reports.
• Participate in pool activities with campers during swim times.

What you'll need#

• Must be an Atlanta Teen Leader Member.
• At least one year of experience working with youth.
• Must obtain a work permit.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and a drug screening.

Location & details#

• Location: Atlanta, Georgia.
• Term: Summer 2026. Required training occurs June 1–5, 2026. The program runs from June 8–July 24, 2026.
• Schedule: Interns work 6-hour shifts, 2 to 3 days per week (12–18 hours total per week). Participation in the Atlanta Teen Leaders Academy is required on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Vacation requests during the program dates will not be approved.
