About the role#
As a Student Mentor at the Wellness Center, you will guide and support fellow students as they adjust to college life. You will serve as a role model, help students navigate the City Colleges of Chicago system, and connect them with campus resources. This role involves meeting with mentees twice a month to set and track goals.
What you'll do#
- Advise students on study techniques, organizational skills, and learning aides.
- Advocate for your mentees when necessary.
- Provide outreach programming on mental health topics for the campus community.
- Research and create resources or social media content to share wellness information.
- Help provide accurate information about Counseling Services to reduce misinformation.
- Attend required mentor training sessions.
- Document your observations and submit regular reports to your supervisor.
- Follow the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.
What you'll need#
- You must be a student currently attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
- Enrollment in at least 6 semester hours of pre-credit or credit classes.
- Pursuit of an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.
- A minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and good academic standing.
- You must be at least 16 years old with work permit consent and eligibility to work in the United States.
- You cannot be a current full or part-time employee of the City Colleges of Chicago.
- A High School Diploma or active pursuit of a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and self-motivated work ethic.
- Familiarity with the City Colleges of Chicago.
