About the role#
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program provides part-time employment opportunities for eligible students at City Colleges of Chicago. These positions are designed to help you gain experience in your field of study while earning wages to support your educational and living expenses. Roles are available in various departments including academic offices, laboratories, libraries, student centers, and the Healthy Market food pantry.
What you'll do#
Depending on your assigned department, you will perform tasks such as:
- Providing general office support, including filing, faxing, photocopying, and word processing.
- Assisting staff with day-to-day departmental functions and special projects.
- Answering incoming phone calls and directing them to the appropriate personnel.
- Performing laboratory duties, including equipment maintenance and supporting students during lab use.
- Participating in outreach activities and assisting students with financial aid application processes.
- Supporting the Healthy Market food pantry by stocking shelves, organizing inventory, and assisting visitors.
- Planning and executing student activities or providing peer tutoring support.
What you'll need#
- Must be 16 years or older and eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago and enrolled in at least 6 credit semester hours.
- Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Must hold a high school diploma or be actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
- A completed and processed FAFSA is required to be considered for these positions.
- Strong oral communication and customer service skills are essential.
