About the role#
The Coordinator for Student Experience supports the execution of programs designed to help students transition into college life. You will work with college leadership and staff to foster a sense of belonging for students, helping to improve retention and success outcomes. This position is part of the Harold Washington College team and focuses on building connections between students and the campus community.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate and execute college-wide programs, including orientation, welcome events, and success workshops.
- Plan and organize major events like new student convocations and open houses.
- Connect students to campus organizations, academic support services, and co-curricular programs.
- Track student participation and maintain program data to help with reporting and decision-making.
- Present information at events to promote student services and outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with work teams to identify student needs and service gaps.
- Serve as a direct resource for students by connecting them to available college services.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Social Sciences, Business, or a related field.
- At least two years of experience in student services within a higher education setting, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience planning and coordinating events, programs, or workshops.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
- Knowledge of student development theory, first-year student program practices, and academic support structures is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in Chicago, Illinois.
- You must be able to travel between campus and satellite locations as needed.
- The role requires the ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six months of hire.
