About the role#
This internship provides technical support for process safety management at our oil refinery in McPherson, Kansas. You will assist in monitoring safety programs, policies, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This is a full-time, paid position requiring 40 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Identify and resolve basic safety issues.
- Use computer systems and spreadsheets to track, monitor, and analyze safety systems.
- Identify substandard conditions and communicate findings to the team.
- Use fact-based analysis to find root causes of process safety problems or incidents.
- Develop recommendations and monitor their implementation.
- Analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Work with line management, employees, union personnel, and regulatory inspectors.
- Assist the CHS Safety Group with suppliers, contractor services, and business unit communication.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize safety-related issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior in a Chemical Engineering or Safety Engineering/Management program at a four-year university.
- Previous internship experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
