About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. You will collaborate with the engineering team to increase productivity and maximize efficiency by identifying and removing waste from production processes. This role focuses on integrating workers, machines, and materials to improve manufacturing output. Depending on your performance and company needs, this role may transition into a full-time position upon graduation.
What you'll do#
- Improve and manage manufacturing processes while finding efficient ways to utilize assets and staff.
- Design and implement new processes or tooling for new products.
- Conduct operational studies, including time studies and productivity analysis.
- Ensure process controls are in place for both new and existing equipment.
- Develop training materials and conduct sessions on process control activities.
- Update standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Map material flow and study operations sequences to maximize workflow and space.
- Lead improvement projects, including Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Kaizen events.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing methods and report on cost savings.
- Support environmental and safety compliance programs.
- Assist in the design of prototypes and equipment modifications.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as an engineering student with at least three years of completed coursework, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- Three years of relevant experience or training.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software.
- Preferred experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Modeling, and 3D design.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes like welding, heavy equipment, control panels, and materials technology is preferred.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations including statistical analysis and sampling theory.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions, read professional journals, and write clear reports.
- Capability to present information effectively to managers and other groups.
