About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience with electrical heat trace (EHT) systems in an industrial setting. You will work at the Syncrude (Mildred Lake) site in Fort McMurray. The role is designed for students or emerging professionals interested in project coordination, engineering design, and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Provide engineering design and analysis for EHT systems, including layouts and specification development.
- Build construction and quality work packages, including bills of materials and test sheets.
- Analyze project progress and collaborate with project managers to adjust scope, cost, and timelines.
- Prepare requisitions and material documentation for customers.
- Coordinate with supply and procurement teams to expedite materials and develop schedules.
- Support change orders through tracking and document preparation.
- Perform field checks in a live plant environment.
- Maintain project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
What you'll need#
- Currently obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of engineering, maintenance, or operations at a petrochemical or industrial site.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with high attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to construction and project sites.
- Current WHMIS and CSTS certifications.
- Ability to comply with all company health, safety, and fitness-for-duty requirements as this is a safety-sensitive position.

- Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: CAD 31.50 per hour.
- Term: Rolling.
- Shift options: 5-8s (Monday to Friday) or 7 days on/7 days off (12-hour shifts).
