About the role#
The Compression Group within Carrier’s Mechanical Center of Excellence is seeking a motivated student for a part-time internship during the Fall 2026 semester. This role provides practical experience in compression technology, including centrifugal, reciprocating, rotary, scroll, and screw systems. You will gain exposure to mechanical design and thermodynamics while contributing to the development and application of HVAC&R equipment.
What you'll do#
- Perform mechanical design and analysis of components such as screw rotors, bearings, shaft seals, pistons, and pressure-containing castings.
- Conduct Vapor-cycle refrigeration thermodynamic analysis.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to develop and execute test plans.
- Document design and development procedures within Engineering Standard Work.
- Use AI tools to optimize processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in troubleshooting compressor performance and field-related issues.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Industrial, Aerospace, or Environmental Engineering.
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Preferred: Coursework or experience in thermodynamics, mechanical assembly, and CAD/3D software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
