Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a part-time Sculpture Intern to support the School of Art. This role involves 20 hours of work per week, totaling 600 hours over the academic year. The intern will assist the Sculpture Technician in the daily operations of the wood shop, metal shop, mold making room, and spray booth, providing support to students, faculty, and staff.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the supervision and administration of the wood shop, metal shop, mold making room, and spray booth.
- Operate and maintain shop equipment, including performing minor repairs, cleaning, and changing blades or abrasives.
- Help train students and staff on equipment use while enforcing safety rules according to EH&S guidelines.
- Oversee and manage student monitors.
- Assist the school Sculpture Technician with supply reporting and project support.
- Provide research and development support to Doherty Hall technicians.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Art (BFA or BXA) is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with woodworking and welding equipment.
- Completion of OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training.
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively within a diverse academic environment.
- Successful completion of a background check.
