The Assistant Director/Career Consultant works within the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) to provide comprehensive career services for undergraduate and graduate students in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. This position acts as a primary liaison between the CPDC and academic departments, focusing on career exploration, professional development, and employment assistance. The role requires a blend of individual student coaching, group programming, and relationship management with faculty, staff, and employers.
What you'll do#
- Assist students in assessing career goals, building job search strategies, and developing professional marketing materials.
- Create, organize, and present career-related programs, workshops, career fairs, and online learning content.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to stay informed on industry trends and recruitment needs.
- Collaborate with department heads, academic advisors, and faculty to integrate career development into the student experience.
- Track internship and first-destination outcomes with high attention to detail and accountability.
- Participate in occasional travel for career treks and employer engagement activities.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in college student development, career development, collegiate advising, early career recruiting, or human resources.
- Strong technical proficiency, including MS Office Suite, Google Suite, and AI platforms, with an openness to learn new advising tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Experience with Handshake CRM software and college-based career resources is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Location & details#
- Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with on-campus presence fluctuating based on the academic calendar.
- Schedule: Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
- Employment Terms: Full-time, rolling application review.
