    About the role#

    Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to serve as the senior marketing and communication officer for the Division of Student Affairs. This role establishes a strategic vision that unifies the divisional narrative while aligning priorities with larger university strategies. Operating under a hub-and-spoke model, the Director influences departmental efforts, leads divisional strategies, and serves as a liaison to university-wide communications and marketing operations.

    What you'll do#

    • Define, implement, and assess a comprehensive divisional marketing and communications strategy.
    • Oversee high-level divisional and cross-departmental marketing initiatives.
    • Create rigorous work statements, budgets, timelines, and frameworks to maximize quality and output.
    • Evaluate the reach and impact of marketing efforts using high-level data and analytics.
    • Empower decentralized staff by developing training programs in strategic storytelling, brand governance, project management, and responsible generative AI literacy.

    What you'll need#

    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
    • Minimum 10+ years of experience in marketing or communication roles.
    • Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
    • Proficiency with website systems and graphic design software.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to model responsible, ethical, and risk-aware AI usage.
