The School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a part-time Digital Print Studio Intern. This role involves 20 hours of work per week, totaling 600 hours over the academic year. The position focuses on supporting the Digital Print Studio technician and serving the School of Art community through equipment maintenance, student support, and administrative tasks.
What you'll do#
- Supervise and assist with the administration of the Digital Print Studio.
- Process large format print and vinyl cutter requests for students, faculty, and staff.
- Troubleshoot and communicate with students regarding print requests to ensure quality output.
- Operate and maintain studio equipment, including large format inkjet printers, vinyl cutters, scanners, black dye acetate printers, Risograph printers, iMacs, and CINTIQs.
- Assist as needed in traditional printmaking studios.
- Train and oversee students on safety rules and Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
- Assist with financial transactions, accounting, and supply management.
- Support research and development for Doherty Hall technicians.
What you'll need#
- Bachelors degree in Art (BFA or BXA), or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience with Print Media is preferred.
- Experience with large format printing is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to interact and collaborate with a diverse student body.
- Successful completion of a background check.
