About the role#
CarGurus is hiring a Full Stack Software Development Engineering Intern for an 11-week program during Summer 2027. You will join one of our engineering teams, such as International Engineering, Marketing Intelligence, Dealer Sourcing, or Consumer Sell My Car. You will contribute to consumer-facing and dealer-facing software, data products, and inventory tools. This is a full-time, paid internship where you will work on a meaningful project from initial development through a final demo.
What you'll do#
- Build, enhance, and deploy clean, well-tested code across full-stack web applications.
- Work across backend services, microservices, APIs, data workflows, and user interfaces.
- Partner with product managers, data analysts, data scientists, and engineers.
- Participate in whiteboard sessions, technical design discussions, code reviews, and team planning.
- Learn production software deployment, monitoring, operational best practices, and AI developer workflows.
- Improve the accuracy, reliability, and usability of metrics and reporting.
- Run quick experiments to test new product insights.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Eligibility to complete a full-time internship.
- Foundational understanding of Java or comparable object-oriented languages.
- Understanding of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
- Understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
- Coursework, project, or hands-on experience with frontend technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, CSS, and Remix.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs into frontend applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest or experience in utilizing AI coding tools.
- Familiarity with REST or GraphQL APIs, microservices, cloud applications, or basic web application architecture is a plus.
- Experience writing automated tests, using monitoring tools, or understanding logging and site performance metrics is a plus.
- Exposure to analytics, experimentation, metrics, reporting, Python, or AI application concepts is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The position operates on a hybrid model, requiring work from the office approximately three days per week.
- This is a full-time position for Summer 2027, running from June through August.
