About the role#
Bound builds software for athletic directors, coaches, and families. This role helps protect the user experience by ensuring our product works reliably on game day. You will learn quality assurance from the ground up, including how to read specifications, build test plans, and document findings. You will also own a capstone project to research and prototype an automated test suite, culminating in a presentation for our product and engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply core QA methodology, including test case design, boundary and edge case analysis, regression testing, and exploratory testing.
- Write clear, reproducible test plans and test cases from product requirements, Linear issues, and feature specs.
- Execute manual test passes across our web and mobile experiences.
- File high-quality bug reports with precise reproduction steps.
- Verify bug fixes and run regression checks before releases.
- Partner with product managers and engineers to clarify intended behavior.
- Maintain and improve the reusable regression test library.
- Research automated testing frameworks and prototype a small automated test suite.
- Document the trade-offs of building and maintaining automation.
- Present a written recommendation and demo to product and engineering at the end of the internship.
- Participate in team standups, sprint ceremonies, and release readiness discussions.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- Completed coursework in programming fundamentals, with the ability to write basic scripts in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or similar languages.
- Strong written communication skills to describe technical problems precisely.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a habit of following processes to completion.
- Ability to work independently on a defined project with weekly check-ins.
- Exposure to testing frameworks like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Jest, or pytest.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and pull request workflows.
- Experience with issue trackers like Linear or Jira and documentation tools like Notion or Confluence.
- Basic understanding of REST APIs and tools like Postman or browser dev tools.
- Prior experience in QA, technical support, or software internships is a plus.
- Background in K-12 athletics or activities is a plus.
