Cybersecurity Research & Operations Assistant (Student)

About the role#

This position supports cybersecurity operations within the IT department at Bob Jones University. The role focuses on practical security research, log analysis, and incident response, requiring strong documentation skills and a genuine interest in the field.

What you'll do#

• Investigate, categorize, and take action on reported phishing emails.
• Research vulnerabilities and exploits to determine their applicability, adjust risk levels, and document findings.
• Analyze audit logs from various security controls to evaluate the impact of implementations.
• Conduct research on additional security controls as needed.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a student at Bob Jones University, with a preference for IT, Cybersecurity, or Computer Engineering majors.
• Understanding of email authentication methods, phishing attacks, and social engineering.
• Ability to demonstrate a personal interest in cybersecurity, such as through personal projects, labs, or activities outside of coursework.
• Familiarity with Windows and Office applications.
• Strong research and documentation skills.
• Network+, Security+, or other relevant certifications are preferred.
