About the role#
Bluestone Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital offers a clinical rotation for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students. This role involves working in an inpatient psychiatric unit serving children and adolescents aged 6 to 21. Students apply classroom knowledge while providing psychiatric evaluation and services under the supervision of a Nurse Practitioner preceptor. This is a paid internship with a minimum requirement of 12 hours per week, scheduled between 9am and 2pm, Monday through Friday.
What you'll do#
- Perform initial psychiatric evaluations within 24 hours of patient admission.
- Complete psychiatric progress notes on the date of service delivery.
- Interview patients and guardians to assess medication regimes.
- Participate in treatment planning and work as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Communicate with guardians to gather historical information and obtain medication consent.
- Provide ongoing education and counseling to patients and their families.
- Follow the seven medication rights to reduce errors.
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Collaborate with medical staff and community agencies regarding evaluations and referrals.
- Meet daily with your preceptor to discuss patient care and academic goals.
- Adhere to all accreditation and certification standards.
What you'll need#
- Current Ohio Registered Nurse licensure.
- Enrollment in an accredited graduate nursing program, such as an MSN, DNP, or Post-Master's Certificate, with a specialization in Psychiatric-Mental Health.
