About the role#
Blue Robotics builds components and systems for marine robotics. We help people and organizations explore oceans and waterways. Our R&D team in Victoria works on the full design cycle, from initial whiteboard sketches to volume-manufactured products. As a Mechanical Design Co-op, you will take on the same responsibilities as our full-time engineers. You will design real products rather than working on a manufacturing line.
What you'll do#
- Design complex mechanical assemblies, including pressure-rated enclosures, brushless motors, battery modules, connectors, lights, electronics trays, cameras, and vehicle frames.
- Evaluate system failure modes, create validation plans, and support the execution of these plans.
- Perform component and vehicle-level testing for performance, durability, reliability, and variability.
- Design new lab testing equipment and carry out lab testing.
- Find, communicate with, and build relationships with new suppliers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree or a related field.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting using at least one CAD software package.
- A strong foundation in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and engineering materials.
- Experience designing, building, and testing projects.
- An impulse to understand how things work and a desire to create new things.
- An ability to collaborate, learn, and adapt.
Location & details#
- Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
