About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineer Intern on the Mission Critical team, you will support federal projects at Black & Veatch. This is a full-time, paid summer internship based in Overland Park, Kansas. You will contribute to infrastructure challenges while gaining hands-on experience in engineering design and analysis.
What you'll do#
- Develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings.
- Design systems for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, standby power, and flood control.
- Prepare basic calculations and assist in equipment selection.
- Perform tasks to support engineering analyses and report production.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to schedule project deliverables.
- Collect, organize, and evaluate data.
- Analyze systems using computer modeling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited university in a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering program.
- Strong communication, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with computer software.
- Ability to pass pre-employment onboarding requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
- Degrees in Architectural Engineering or Fire Protection are preferred, as is coursework in HVAC and plumbing.
