About the role#
The Social Services Intern supports the well-being of residents through person-centered programming at Hoosier Village. This role provides hands-on experience in aging services, therapeutic recreation, and wellness. You will help plan, lead, and evaluate enrichment activities while completing projects that impact the daily lives of residents.
What you'll do#
- Build one-on-one relationships with residents through conversation and companionship.
- Facilitate daily group and individual programs focused on wellness.
- Observe and document resident behaviors and preferences in electronic health records.
- Interview residents or their representatives to complete life history documentation.
- Collaborate with the Social Services team to develop and lead meaningful programs.
- Initiate or participate in projects such as intergenerational programming, storytelling, or sensory-based experiences.
- Contribute to team meetings and support community-wide events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program in gerontology, therapeutic recreation, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, human services, or a related field.
- A desire to work with older adults and make a positive impact.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Professional behavior and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
