About the role#
The Asset Management Analyst intern plays a lead role in designing and building the BGIS building data collection system. This system gathers environmental, occupancy, and equipment-performance information to provide practical insights. You will work with senior product and technical leads to coordinate and perform hands-on activities across hardware, firmware, data, and testing to advance project prototypes.
What you'll do#
- Design, prototype, and troubleshoot sensor nodes, gateways, and power systems, including PCB design and board bring-up.
- Develop embedded firmware and manage device configurations.
- Maintain the telemetry pipeline from device collection through MQTT, time-series storage, and dashboards.
- Plan experiments, perform statistical analysis, and train machine learning models for building conditions.
- Define and execute bench, connectivity, and field tests while documenting results.
- Coordinate dependencies with product, software, data, security, and field delivery teams.
- Develop 3D models and 3D Gaussian Splatting outputs from spatial and imaging data.
- Maintain the product development workplan, issue logs, and technical documentation.
- Support testing and client-site pilot deployments in Markham.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related university program.
- Hands-on experience with electronics, sensors, microcontrollers, and physical prototyping.
- Proficiency in PCB design, soldering, board bring-up, 3D modelling, and 3D printing.
- Familiarity with ESP32, Arduino, or PlatformIO.
- Experience with C/C++, Python, MQTT, REST APIs, Bluetooth, cellular communications, Linux, Docker, InfluxDB, or Grafana.
- Experience training machine learning models and performing statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of spatial or imaging methods such as 3D Gaussian Splatting.
- Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, firmware, and software.
- Capability to manage competing priorities and document work clearly.
Location & details#
- This is a part-time, rolling internship position.
- The role is hybrid, requiring remote work with occasional on-site prototype assembly and testing in Markham, Ontario.
