About the role#
Beyond Reach Labs builds large deployable structures for space infrastructure. We focus on simplifying mechanical systems to improve reliability and manufacturing. As an intern, you will work on the core technology of our deployable structures, including solar arrays and radiators. You will improve current systems and help design the next generation of hardware.
What you'll do#
- Design, analyze, and validate mechanical systems and actuators.
- Manage the development cycle of deployable structures.
- Perform testing to ensure system reliability.
- Optimize designs to manage costs and production efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 6 months of experience outside the classroom.
- Experience designing and qualifying mechanisms driven by stepper or BLDC motors, springs, and HDRMs.
- Proficiency in creating design models and drawings for production using CAD software.
- Project management experience for technical projects.
- Expertise in materials selection for space applications.
- Experience with large, lightweight deployable structures.
- Proficiency using Fusion and Ansys for CAD and analysis.
Location & details#
- Location: New York City, NY.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Schedule: Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed for project milestones.
- Eligibility: You must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for authorization under U.S. export regulations. We do not provide visa sponsorship.
