About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and validation of mechanical systems and actuators for large deployable space structures. You will work on technologies ranging from solar arrays to radiators, focusing on simplifying mechanical systems to improve reliability and manufacturability. This role involves both improving existing systems and shaping the development of next-generation hardware.
What you'll do#
- Identify and analyze requirements, conduct trade studies on mechanism design options, and apply First Principles Engineering Analysis.
- Create and iterate detailed CAD models, including mechanism architecture and test methods.
- Conduct classical and FEA analysis for all load conditions to ensure adequate margins and reliability.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans throughout the development cycle.
- Produce complete design packages, including detailed drawings, analysis reports, and bills of materials.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 6 months of experience outside the classroom, such as project teams, research, or previous internships.
- Experience designing and qualifying mechanisms driven by stepper or BLDC motors, springs, and HDRMs.
- Proficiency in developing design models and drawings for production and analysis using CAD software.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to support project milestones.
