About the role#
Nightwing is hiring a Mechanical Engineer Intern for our Springfield, Virginia location. This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027. You will work alongside senior engineers to support multidisciplinary projects.
What you'll do#
- Support senior engineers on various projects.
- Design and analyze tools and mechanisms.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings.
- Conduct mechanical testing and laboratory work.
- Perform rapid prototyping and assembly.
- Write reports and prepare presentations.
- Provide support during design reviews.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited B.S. or M.S. program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Status as a rising Junior or Senior by Summer 2027.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is desired.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and retain a U.S. Top Secret Clearance with a successful Counterintelligence polygraph.
- Coursework or experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
- Coursework in Finite Element Analysis and computational analysis software like Matlab or Python.
- Experience with mechanical assembly and common hand or powered tools.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a collaborative team environment.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
