About the role#
This internship provides experience in insurance operations within a professional business environment. You will work both independently and as part of a team to support the Accounting department. The role is part-time, offering 15-20 hours per week during the school year with the potential for up to 40 hours during the summer.
What you'll do#
- Map existing workflows and identify procedural gaps.
- Challenge current processes and help drive necessary changes.
- Build data queries using SQL.
- Improve departmental efficiency by organizing the electronic file library.
- Assist with general ledger account reconciliations.
- Ensure the consistency and accuracy of expense coding.
- Contribute to compliance with the NAIC Model Audit Rule, including process documentation and testing.
- Prepare spreadsheets and conduct internet research.
- Handle clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, and data organization.
- Develop and present improvement recommendations to management.
What you'll need#
- Sophomore class standing or higher.
- Completion of introductory accounting courses with a basic understanding of financial principles.
- Current enrollment with a full-time course load during the Spring and Fall semesters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manipulate data and solve problems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Punctuality and the ability to meet deadlines.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Omaha, Nebraska.
- Work may be performed on-site or remotely depending on the situation.
- Flexible scheduling is available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
