About the role#
The Mechatronics Engineering Co-op supports the SCOOP team by developing and maintaining controls for mechanical test fixtures. You will work on cycle, endurance, and reliability testing. This role involves selecting and integrating controls hardware, developing PLC programs, and troubleshooting electromechanical systems. You will also implement tools to monitor test performance and failures while working alongside mechanical, electrical, quality, and systems engineers.
What you'll do#
- Support PLC development and troubleshooting for automated systems, including debugging ladder logic, structured text, and I/O issues.
- Assist in commissioning and validation of automation systems, including sensors, conveyors, and robotic subsystems.
- Develop and improve diagnostic tools for identifying electrical and control system faults.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability and uptime.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues such as wiring faults, sensor failures, and communication errors.
- Assist in the integration and testing of hardware components like PLCs, drives, and safety systems.
- Modify and test PLC programs to support new features and system updates.
- Build test setups to validate control logic and hardware functionality.
- Support root cause analysis for system failures and implement corrective actions.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics to support debugging and system bring-up.
- Assist with panel wiring, labeling, and verification.
- Document system behavior and solutions to improve team processes.
What you'll need#
- Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience or coursework with PLC programming.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical systems, including reading schematics and troubleshooting circuits.
- Familiarity with industrial sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in both hardware and software contexts.
- Experience with basic programming in Python, C, C++, or structured text is a plus.
- Interest in industrial automation, robotics, and system integration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January to June).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $28 to $34 per hour.
