About the role#
Benchmark Space Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Avionics team for the summer of 2027. You will work alongside our engineers to design, build, and test electronics for satellite propulsion systems. This position provides hands-on experience with industry design software, documentation standards, and cross-functional project collaboration.
What you'll do#
- Design circuits and printed circuit boards (PCB) from concept through simulation and layout.
- Perform initial PCB bring-up testing and final assembly.
- Create, modify, and review test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Generate Nonconformance reports.
- Create and manage design, assembly, and testing schedules.
- Identify and communicate improvements for test processes and workflows.
- Balance multiple projects while providing regular status updates on assignments.
- Maintain high standards of accountability, integrity, and transparency.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Status as a U.S. Person under U.S. export control laws.
- Fundamental understanding of circuit design, DC and AC circuits, frequency response analysis, signal processing, embedded systems, and communication protocols.
- Experience with PCB design, assembly, and testing.
- Knowledge of PCB CAD software and electronics simulation tools.
- Proficiency with debugging tools including soldering irons, digital multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively through writing and presentations.
- Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller programming is a plus.
- Previous internship, research, or engineering club experience is beneficial, particularly if it involved flight hardware.
