About the role#
The Behavioral Health Respite Care Provider Intern provides care and supervision to children and adolescents with behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges. You will help create a safe environment while supporting youth during various respite activities. This is a paid internship opportunity for Winter 2027, requiring up to 19 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Help provide a structured environment for youth to participate in scheduled respite activities.
- Encourage participation and assist in facilitating activities like arts and crafts, recreation, and life skills development.
- Supervise youth to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Promote positive behavior and conflict resolution.
- Transport clients to and from program activities and organize transportation routes.
- Complete accurate documentation for youth attendance and learn to use the SmartChart system.
- Communicate with participants, staff, families, and service providers.
- Learn intake procedures and assist in promoting the program within the community.
- Maintain required trainings, certifications, and licensure.
- Handle confidential client documents according to agency guidelines.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma.
- Current enrollment in a Human Services or Social Services program.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and their families.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with initiative and function as part of a professional team.
- Cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse individuals.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Adherence to professional and ethical conduct.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets agency insurance criteria is preferred.
