Counselor Internship

About the role#

Behavioral Health Group (BHG) is seeking a Counselor Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This role offers the opportunity to support patients in identifying their strengths and setting social, educational, and occupational goals under the guidance of experienced counselors. Interns will assist with addiction treatment services while adhering to state and federal regulations.

What you'll do#

• Conduct group counseling sessions as required.
• Orient new patients to treatment program operations and procedures.
• Provide crisis intervention and support services.
• Maintain complete and organized patient records.
• Support intake and readmission services, including follow-up counseling.
• Collaborate with case-management services for patient referrals.
• Attend and complete all required training sessions.
• Ensure prompt and regular attendance at the assigned work location.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field.
• Currently pursuing counseling licensure and utilizing these internship hours to meet requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and time management abilities.
• Ability to manage variable workloads and maintain effectiveness in a medical office environment.
