About the role#
Bedrock Robotics is looking for a Test Operations intern to join our field program in Lockhart, Texas. You will work at Proto-Town, our 30-acre test site, where we run autonomous excavators and haul trucks. You will work alongside autonomy engineers and field specialists to turn engineering designs into proven results on real iron. This is a full-time, on-site role for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with hardware, controls, and autonomy engineers to write Gen 3 test plans.
- Run structured field tests on autonomous and manually operated excavators, both in-cab and from the field.
- Manage data quality for test campaigns by performing instrumentation checks and reviewing recorded runs.
- Triage issues in the field by reproducing errors and writing actionable tickets for the engineering team.
- Develop Python tools to automate test setup, data processing, and daily reporting.
- Refine test procedures based on your findings to improve future validation cycles.
- Present campaign results and recommendations to the broader engineering team.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a BS or MS in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, robotics, or a related engineering field.
- Hands-on experience with test hardware, instrumentation, or data acquisition through projects, competition teams, or prior internships.
- Working proficiency in Python for scripting, data processing, and automation.
- Basic electrical skills including use of multimeters and reading schematics.
- Ability to work outdoors full-time at our field site while wearing required PPE.
- Strong documentation habits and clear communication skills.
- Experience with heavy equipment, hydraulics, or automotive testing is a plus.
- Familiarity with Git, the Linux command line, or ROS-style robotics tools.
- Experience analyzing and visualizing large time-series datasets.
- Prior shop or field experience with a focus on safety and process.
