    About the role#

Predicting what happens next on a construction site is a core challenge at Bedrock. Whether it is soil dynamics, machine interactions, or people moving around the site, every movement changes the environment. The Behavior ML team builds world models that allow our machines to reason about the near future rather than just reacting to the present. As an intern, you will train models on real fleet data, explore architectures, and work with the Behavior and Controls teams to deploy your work onto real excavators.

    What you'll do#

    • Train and evaluate world models using data collected from autonomous machines in the field.
    • Run architecture explorations and ablations to determine what approaches are effective.
    • Build evaluation harnesses and metrics to assess model performance.
    • Partner with the behavior and controls teams to connect model outputs to planning and control systems.
    • Present findings and provide a foundation for the team to build upon.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, machine learning, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent research or industry experience.
    • Strong Python skills and hands-on experience training models in PyTorch or equivalent frameworks.
    • Ability to read a research paper and turn it into a working implementation.
    • Comfort working with messy, real-world data rather than curated benchmarks.
    • Sound experimental judgment to distinguish between real results and noise.
    • Experience with world models, video prediction, or sequence modeling, such as DreamerV3, V-JEPA 2, Genie 3, GAIA-2, or NVIDIA Cosmos.
    • Background in reinforcement learning or imitation learning.
    • Prior work with robotics or autonomous vehicle data.
    • Familiarity with large-scale training infrastructure.

    Location & details#

    • Location: San Francisco, California.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time paid internship.
    • Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
