About the role#
Getting an autonomy stack onto a 40-ton excavator is a hardware problem long before it is a software one. You will deal with brackets, harnesses, enclosures, and interfaces that must survive vibration, dust, and weather. As a Machine Integration intern, you will design and build the physical interfaces between our system and the machines, as well as the test stands used to validate them before they hit a job site.
What you'll do#
- Integrate sensors, compute, and wiring onto machines alongside the hardware team.
- Design brackets, enclosures, and interface hardware in CAD, then help fabricate and install them.
- Build test stands for validating subsystems on the bench.
- Run lab tests, capture data, and iterate on designs based on performance.
- Document build and install procedures to improve future efficiency.
- Close the loop with the field team to track what works and what needs improvement.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Proficiency in CAD software like SolidWorks or Onshape.
- Genuine shop skills and experience building physical projects.
- Basic electrical competence, including experience with harnessing, connectors, multimeters, and reading schematics.
- Willingness to work on and around heavy equipment while wearing PPE.
- Preferred: Experience with wiring harness design or manufacturing.
- Preferred: Exposure to off-highway, automotive, or industrial equipment.
- Preferred: Experience with machining, welding, or 3D printing.
