Student Worker - Undergraduate Writing Consultant

About the role#

The Center for Writing Excellence is seeking undergraduate students to serve as Writing Consultants. This position involves working one-on-one with students from various disciplines and backgrounds to support their development as writers. You do not need to be an English major to apply; the role is open to students from all fields of study who are curious, caring, and committed to helping others succeed.

What you'll do#

• Work one-on-one with students at every stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
• Provide support with argument, thesis development, audience, purpose, evidence, organization, grammar, and style.
• Assist writers across a wide range of genres, such as research papers, lab reports, proposals, resumes, and personal statements.
• Document sessions through notes and implement feedback to support your own professional growth.
• Participate in a paid orientation and training program, which includes regular staff meetings, peer observations, and one-on-one mentoring.
• Collaborate with directors on special projects, outreach, and presentations as needed.

Location & details#

• Location: Waco, Texas.
• Term: Fall 2027.
• Work Modality: On-site at the University Writing Center.
• Schedule: Minimum of 7 hours per week, maximum of 20 hours per week.
• Compensation: Paid position.
