About the role#
As a Marina Student Worker, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the facility, including opening and closing procedures. This role involves working in an outdoor environment, where you will spend significant time on the water observing patrons and ensuring a safe experience for all participants. This is a seasonal, weather-dependent position.
What you'll do#
- Provide water safety, boating, and bicycle maintenance instruction to participants.
- Assist customers with fitting PFDs, selecting equipment, and understanding safety policies.
- Maintain and organize Marina boats, paddles, PFDs, and other equipment.
- Enforce all Marina policies and procedures to ensure proper equipment usage and patron safety.
- Report all injuries, incidents of misconduct, property damage, and potential hazards.
- Attend scheduled staff trainings and meetings.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current Baylor University student and a work study recipient.
- Ability to lift boats weighing up to 50 pounds and paddle with a boat in tow.
- Strong judgment in emergency situations, sharp decision-making skills, and the ability to handle conflict calmly.
- Assertiveness, energy, and a positive attitude.
- Initiative and support for the Outdoor Adventure program.
- Previous experience in canoeing, kayaking, sailing, bicycle maintenance, or customer service is preferred but not required.
Location & details#
- Location: Pullin Family Marina, Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: 2:30 PM - 8:00 PM, 7 days a week.
- Pay rate: $10.00/hr.
- This position is on-site and ongoing.
