About the role#

The Lariat Social Media Editor is a student worker position responsible for managing the publication's social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and app notifications. This role focuses on increasing readership and engagement through creative content strategies and data-driven decision-making. The position requires 16 hours of work per week during the Fall and Spring terms.

What you'll do#

• Manage and maintain the Lariat’s social media accounts.
• Monitor social media feeds to identify story ideas and relevant news.
• Evaluate daily social media analytics to determine traffic patterns for stories, photos, and videos.
• Develop and implement social media strategies in coordination with section editors.
• Participate in daily budget meetings.
• Provide marketing and communications support for departmental projects and initiatives.
• Serve as a backup for Morning Buzz as needed.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment as a student in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, or Marketing.
• Strong creative writing skills and an active, savvy approach to social media platforms.
• Ability to analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to take initiative and adapt to social media trends.

• Compensation: Paid position with a $3,000 scholarship.
