About the role#
This position involves contributing to the Lariat publication as a news, sports, or arts and lifestyle writer. The role requires consistent output and active engagement with editorial staff to cover assigned beats and projects.
What you'll do#
- Cover a specific beat and provide a weekly budget to editors every Wednesday night.
- Write at least four stories per week, including news, features, and in-depth pieces.
- Publish content for the website in a timely manner.
- Maintain constant communication with editors regarding daily coverage and upcoming assignments.
- Work both independently and collaboratively to meet publication goals.
What you'll need#
- A solid understanding of news values and the ability to write accurately under deadline pressure.
- Strong command of grammar, spelling, and AP style.
- Effective interpersonal skills for coordinating with the editorial team.
- Familiarity with sports terminology for those applying to the sports writer position.
- Demonstrated proficiency in news and feature writing.
Location & details#
- Location: Castellaw Communications Center, Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: 8 hours per week.
- Term: Fall 2026 and Winter 2027.
- Pay: $9.00 per hour.
