About the role#
This position supports the off-campus community service efforts at Spring Lake Farm. The role focuses on community engagement, facility maintenance, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. This is a paid, part-time student worker position requiring 8 to 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Perform administrative tasks and run routine errands for the farm.
- Clean and organize facilities, including Urban Homestead Garden care and compost sorting.
- Prepare for and staff the Farmers Market.
- Support community outreach and educational programs both on-farm and in the community.
- Educate and instruct volunteers and clients on topics such as composting, food justice, hunger alleviation, and sustainable agriculture.
- Provide customer service and facilitate group orientations.
What you'll need#
- Ability to educate visitors of all ages about the food system and sustainable alternatives.
- Capability to work effectively within a team and facilitate group learning experiences.
- Physical ability to sustain extended periods working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Capacity to lift up to 50lbs routinely.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Previous office and educational experience is preferred but not required.
- Preferred majors include Environmental Engineering, Agriculture, Communications, Public Health, Sociology, and Psychology.
Location & details#
- Location: Spring Lake Farm, 356 Spring Lake Road, Waco, Texas.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2026 with potential for ongoing employment.
- Schedule: 8 to 20 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, with potential for Saturday shifts.
