About the role#

The Lariat Sports Editor is a student position responsible for managing sports content, enforcing deadlines, and ensuring editorial quality. This role involves coordinating across multiple formats, including print, digital, and podcasts, while driving audience engagement through social media.

What you'll do#

• Assign stories, photos, and multimedia content to writers and staff.
• Edit sports content for clarity, grammar, and AP style.
• Produce at least four stories per week.
• Manage the weekly sports budget and attend daily budget meetings.
• Provide feedback to podcasters and assist with podcast production and equipment usage.
• Participate in bi-weekly print nights and weekly staff meetings.
• Contribute to social media strategy and content creation.

What you'll need#

• Proficiency in AP style.
• Experience in social media management.
• Strong editing skills and the ability to enforce deadlines.
• Ability to guide and provide feedback to writers and podcasters.
• Majors in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, English, or Business Administration are preferred.

Location & details#

• Location: Waco, Texas.
• Schedule: 20 hours per week.
• Terms: Summer 2026 and Fall 2026.
• Modality: On-site.
