About the role#
This internship offers a chance to work across the teams that run and protect Baird’s technology environment. You will learn how IT Operations and Infrastructure teams support the firm through rotations, job shadowing, and project work. You will identify manual or repetitive tasks and help design, build, and test automation or AI-enabled solutions. You will be paired with subject matter experts who provide coaching and technical reviews as you take on more complex work.
What you'll do#
- Partner with associates to identify high-value work for automation.
- Build and test small automations using approved tools.
- Explore AI capabilities to organize information, summarize documentation, extract data, and support analysis.
- Assist with operational tasks while learning about data protection, testing, and service reliability.
- Create clear documentation and test evidence to ensure work can be maintained by the team.
- Communicate progress and blockers to associates and leaders.
- Present findings, demonstrations, and lessons learned to the team.
- Participate in job shadowing and mentorship to experience the firm's culture.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, management information systems, computer science, or a related field.
- Graduation date of May 2028 or later.
- Curiosity about infrastructure, automation, and practical uses of AI.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Introductory exposure to scripting, programming, or low-code tools (PowerShell, Python, or Node.js experience is a plus).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of motivation and proactivity.
- Experience with automation, copilots, or generative AI is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid role based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- You will work three days per week in the office and two days remotely.
- The role is full-time (37.5 to 40 hours per week) during the summer and part-time (15 to 20 hours per week) during the school semesters.
- The internship is a rolling, year-round commitment starting in June 2027.
- This position is paid.
