About the role#
This co-op position offers a structured path to build foundational automation skills. You will work alongside the Controls team to support internal and customer projects. The role follows a three-part rotation that begins with learning electrical schematics and PLC basics, moves into supporting customer projects, and ends with hands-on commissioning and debug work. You will receive close supervision while you build habits in safety, engineering standards, and project communication.
What you'll do#
- Complete structured training and follow checklists.
- Perform small PLC ladder edits and structured-text tweaks.
- Implement HMI tag routing and build simple screens.
- Read and update electrical prints with redlines.
- Maintain I/O lists, tag maps, device tagging, and databases.
- Assist with I/O checkout, device bring-up, and online debug.
- Follow test procedures and support FAT/SAT under supervision.
- Run simulations and adjust parameters.
- Safely jog robots and teach points with guidance.
- Manage backups, change logs, and manuals using disciplined version control.
- Communicate project status and risks to cross-functional teams.
- Follow LOTO and site safety rules.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a university program in Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of ladder logic, structured text, and tag creation.
- Understanding of HMI screen and alarm implementation.
- Knowledge of safe robotic jogging, point teaching, and basic tool setup.
- Ability to read schematics and wire lists.
- Experience verifying wiring against prints.
- Knowledge of basic device and IP setup.
- Proficiency in using templates and version control.
- Clear, timely communication skills.
- A structured approach to troubleshooting and documentation.
- A collaborative and coachable attitude.
