About the role#
The Audubon Aquarium Rescue team focuses on stranding response and data collection for marine mammals and sea turtles in Louisiana. As an intern, you will support efforts to monitor the health of the marine environment and understand threats to local wildlife. This is a full-time, paid position based on-site in New Orleans. The internship runs during the winter and summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist with stranding responses and conduct regular beach surveys.
- Perform necropsies on marine mammals and sea turtles.
- Manage record keeping and data documentation.
- Handle daily facility cleaning and vehicle maintenance.
- Participate in animal husbandry tasks.
- Work 5 days per week, including some weekend coverage, with a flexible schedule that stays within 40 hours.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
- Up to date Tetanus vaccination.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Comfort working in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, or cold.
- Ability to perform manual labor, such as lifting heavy objects and standing for long periods.
- Capacity to work around strong odors and handle unpleasant situations with a positive attitude.
- Pursuing or holding a degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
