About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will own real projects alongside engineers and technicians on our production floor. You will spend your time identifying bottlenecks, designing tools, and improving our manufacturing processes in San Francisco.
What you'll do#
- Conduct time-and-motion studies, line balancing, and cycle time analyses.
- Design and fabricate production tooling, jigs, and fixtures to improve build quality and ergonomics.
- Optimize station layouts and material kitting flows.
- Work daily with build technicians to capture process knowledge and translate feedback into physical or procedural improvements.
- Draft and update version-controlled Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions.
- Collect and analyze key manufacturing metrics like cycle time, first-pass yield, and defect rates.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Comfort spending time on the shop floor working directly with technicians, tools, and hardware.
- Basic proficiency with 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, NX, or Onshape.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel or Python.
- Interest in Lean principles like 5S, Root Cause Analysis, and Kaizen.
- Strong communication skills.
- Prior internship or project experience in manufacturing, robotics, automotive, or hardware.
- Experience running time-and-motion studies or drafting assembly instructions.
- Participation in student teams like Formula SAE, FIRST Robotics, or Hyperloop.
Location & details#
- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Modality: This is an on-site role, five days a week.
- Terms: Winter 2027 (January to April) or Summer 2027 (Late May to September).
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with a base salary of $50.00 per hour.
