Astranis is seeking a Harness Design Engineer Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in San Francisco, California. Internships typically last for twelve weeks and provide the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects on spacecraft hardware.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the harnessing design team to develop both flight and test harnessing.
- Create wiring diagrams, block diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings for spacecraft systems.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define interfaces between various subsystems.
- Use CAD programs to route harnessing in 3D.
- Apply electrical engineering fundamentals to select design components based on requirements such as voltage, power, frequency, and data rate.
- Coordinate with the production team to fabricate in-house cables.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in mechatronics, electrical engineering, or an equivalent technical degree.
- Familiarity with power and data transmission concepts.
- An interest in learning about, designing, and working with spacecraft systems.
- Bonus qualifications include experience with Zuken or similar harness design software, knowledge of connectors and wire types (such as MIL circular and D-Sub/microD), and experience with 3D CAD software like Solidworks.
- U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.
