About the role#
This internship provides support to the Finance division at Assurity. You will assist in the valuation and modeling of life, health, and annuity insurance products. You will gain experience in financial reporting, model projections, and unique projects while developing your technical actuarial and communication skills. You will work under the supervision of the Appointed Actuary and collaborate with the broader Finance team.
What you'll do#
- Calculate annual and monthly statutory and tax reserves.
- Manage the quarterly process for IBNR/ICOS balance calculations.
- Prepare monthly financial statement entries for premiums, unpaid claims, and reinsurance components.
- Support the completion of exhibits, schedules, and filings for the Department of Insurance.
- Analyze monthly financial statements to ensure the accuracy of policy reserving entries.
- Compile and analyze data for expense and experience studies.
- Run and analyze model projections for asset/liability management, cash flow testing, and strategic planning.
- Document modeling processes and validate results.
- Create reports for senior leadership.
- Recommend improvements to actuarial processes and learn new software.
- Build professional relationships within the Finance division and participate in departmental activities.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and computer skills, including experience with Excel, Access, or SQL.
- A desire to attain actuarial professional credentials.
- At least one Society of Actuaries exam completed is preferred.
- Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with others.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A commitment to professional development and consistent attendance.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position located in Lincoln, Nebraska.
- This is a paid internship.
- Interns are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- This role is offered on a rolling basis.
