About the role#
The Underwriter Intern position is a 12-week immersive program designed to provide hands-on experience in insurance underwriting. You will support the team with risk analysis, portfolio management, and reporting to help drive business decisions. This role focuses on developing foundational skills in underwriting and risk management through direct project work and cross-functional collaboration.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Underwriting team with data collection, analysis, and reporting of key portfolio performance metrics.
- Evaluate underwriting results, trends, risk characteristics, and financial performance.
- Prepare underwriting reports, presentations, and business insights for internal stakeholders.
- Conduct research to support underwriting strategies, pricing initiatives, and risk management decisions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to workflow optimization.
- Utilize analytical tools to interpret underwriting data.
- Collaborate with underwriting, finance, product, and operations teams.
- Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Document underwriting processes, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
- Support special projects related to portfolio management and business analytics.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate program or a Master's degree program.
- Pursuing a degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Management, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Completion of at least 2 years of undergraduate study.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to think strategically.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel for data analysis, reporting, and modeling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills.
- Interest in insurance, underwriting, and risk assessment.
- Experience with data visualization or analytical tools like Power BI, Tableau, or SQL is a plus.
- Coursework in insurance, risk management, finance, or statistics is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a remote, full-time paid internship.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 17, 2027, to August 7, 2027).
- Work authorization in the United States is required without the need for employer sponsorship.
